Improving Logical Thinking Skills for SW Students Through Course of Introductory Information Technology

Abstract

With the development of Information Technology (IT), it not only has a significant impact and requirement on the field of industrial, but also on humanities area, such as cultivation of thinking mode in social science. The logical thinking skills for the Social Work (SW) students are essential tool for their learning, even the development of their career in the future. Meanwhile, there is also a problem of "insufficient computer skills and interest"for the SW students. This paper describes a teaching practice for improving the logical thinking skills of SW students at the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU). The SW students are required to learn the basic concepts of IT, through the course of Introductory Information Technology (IIT) provided by MPU. In order to cultivate their logical thinking ability, the outline of IIT includes the introduction to evolution of computer and the mind map from three directions, instead of directly carried out the social thinking. The paper also illustrates these training methods that has positive influence in improving their abilities of logical thinking.
