N2 - The paper empirically studied the interplay between students’ online and offline attendance rates and whether students’ online attendance rate was higher or lower than their offline attendance rate. A data sample of students’ online and offline lecture attendance rates was collected from the author’s university in the academic year 2022/2023, covering four senior undergraduate courses of disciplines ranging from software engineering to management. All these four courses were delivered partially online and partially offline due to the then lockdowns and other expedient controls amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. No evidence was found to suggest that a student’s online attendance rate in a course was correlated with his/her offline attendance rate in that course. Also, students’ mean online attendance rate was found to be higher than their mean offline attendance rate. This finding offers guidance to universities, educators and students on the upside of the online lectures in terms of attendance.
