Abstract

Universities need to arrange the timetables for various teaching and learning activities. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is a good solution to those problems. Class timetabling and normal exam timetabling have a lot in common so are well studied. However, due to the different regulations of universities on re-sit exams, the re-sit exam timetabling varies case by case. This work-in-progress paper develops a system with a tailored GA to arrange the re-sit exam taking Macao Polytechnic University as an example. It is shown that the tailored GA is well suited for this problem and the system provides convenience and efficiency for administrative staff.
