摘要

The use of captioned videos has become increasingly popular among English as a foreign language (EFL) learners. Captioned videos provide language learners with access to visual content, the original audio soundtrack, and accompanying text in the same language as the videos. This chapter utilizes corpus linguistics to explore the potential for incorporating captioned videos as a means to enrich language learning practices. Specifically, it delves into learners’ long-term learning trajectories, systematically analyzing the advantages and drawbacks associated with language learning through captioned viewing. The chapter concludes that simultaneous exposure to captions and auditory input is beneficial for language learning. It offers insights into optimizing the effectiveness of captioned videos for EFL learners, illuminating strategies to enhance language learning and vocabulary development.
