Evaluation of Nursing Undergraduates? Performance in Patient Education within a High-Fidelity Simulation

Aim: This study was to evaluate nursing undergraduates' performance in patient education by an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) within a high-fidelity simulation using simulated patients. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted. A total of 96 nursing students completed the OSCE. As an observational measurement, the Patient Education OSCE Checklist was used by two raters for assessing students' performance, commutation skills, interactions with the computer-controlled simulator and simulated patients. The inter-rater reliability was reported as 0.86. Results: Students can complete patient teaching in disease explanation, medications, dietary and activities but their communication skills and cultural awareness and competency need to be improved.
