摘要

This chapter surveys the ways in which corpus linguistics and corpus-based translation studies have addressed issues of semantics, and in particular lexical semantics. The chapter focuses on the semantic analysis and categorisation of lexical items in corpus linguistics and translation studies. despite its limitations, a focus on lexical semantics can prove to be fruitful and its application in corpus-informed translation studies can provide insights into the differences and similarities in semantic resources and semantic evolution of different languages. Thus, the chapter reviews research into the semantic tagging of lexical texts in and across languages, and the insights that the semantic analysis of different kinds of corpora can afford translators. It also reviews scholarship on the historical development of lexical sets in English and speculates about how such scholarship can be extended to other languages. It also suggests how corpus-based insights into comparative semantics can inform translator training.
