摘要
O meu pé de laranja lima (My sweet orange tree), a Brazilian children's novel, by José Mauro de Vasconcelos, was translated from Portuguese into Chinese and published for the first time in China in 2010, where it has since become a great success. This article explores the factors contributing to its popularity in China from five perspectives, namely, the content of the novel, the agency of the professionals involved and the role of patronage, the development of the internet, the influence of Korean culture, and the strategies employed in the translation. Some problems in this translation are discussed to call attention more generally to the role of translation in the promotion of literature from another country.
